Edinburgh Group Jam formed during lockdown and we’ve patiently waiting for the day in which we could run live events again, showcasing some of the local talent and give an opportunity for some of the bands associated with us to play their first gig in 18 months. Well that night came last Friday and what a night it was!
We hosted our first official Edinburgh Jam Group Showcase event at the Voodoo Rooms Edinburgh and was a 6 hour music showcase, featuring an eclectic mix of bands from Pop Covers, to Indie Rock Originals and a local rapper.
The night kicked off with Silhouettes. A dual female fronted Covers band playing pop favourites, including Britney Spears, No Doubt and Beyonce! A thumping start to the night that got everyone in the mood.

Following Silhouettes was Sol Rennie. A local Edinburgh rapper, who was playing his first ever official gig. Sol was a fan favourite in the room and the crowd loved him. Playing songs from his upcoming album, Sol is absolutely one to watch!

Ferns, a 5 piece instrumental Neo-Jazz band were up next and were fresh off a recent appearance at Lindesfarne festival and also debuted their brand new Saxophone player for the first time. Members of Ferns have been associated with EJG for many years now and it’s great to see them again. As always they came to impress and were playing songs off their upcoming EP, which was also recorded at the Edinburgh Jam Group Studio.
The penultimate band were Bicycle Day, bringing fun Indie Originals which really got the crowd involved. Bicycle Day is fronted by another Edinburgh Jam Group long standing member Alex and they always bring the energy, making them a perfect band to play.

Finally we had Bearfoot Servants, a covers band in which this was their first ever gig after forming only a few months ago, post lockdown. Party Vibes a plenty, getting the dance floor packed right up until curfew!

We were absolutely staggered by the turn out and we in fact hit capacity only 90 minutes after opening, which took us all by surprise! For many it was our first live music experience for a long time and it was fantastic to see such positivity, enthusiasm and joy amongst everyone.
We’d like to thank everyone who came, everyone who donated, the bands for playing, the Voodoo rooms staff and last not but not least, Mark Waysted for capturing the vibe of the evening perfectly, with his perfect as usual photos!
We’ve already began planning the next event, which will be sooner than you all think! So keep an eye on our social media for further updated on this.
